Who would have thought that apples are also an aphrodisiac?
According to a recent study published in the Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Italian researchers have found that apples can increase sexual pleasure. The researchers analysed 731 healthy Italian women between the ages of 18 to 43.
The women were asked to report about their eating habits along with how many apples they ate in a day. They were then split into two groups, one that ate apples of more than one a day and the other group that ate less than an apple a day.
They next had to fill out the Female Sexual Function Index (FSI) consisting of 19 questions related to their sexual activities including frequency and overall satisfaction.
Interestingly enough it was found that eating an apple a day was linked with higher FSFI scores, suggesting it increased their sexual pleasure. Increased lubrication and sexual function which cause enhanced sexual experience, was apparently due to eating more apples.
The researchers suggest that it could be due a compound found in apples called phloridzin which plays a similar role in sexual arousal in women to the hormone estradiol.
The study concluded that there is a potential relationship between regular daily apple consumption and better sexuality in the young women population.
With that statement in mind, am off to eat a few apples !
