17/1/2013 0 Comments Wellness and What It MeansDisappointment …. is one of the most cruelest emotions which I have experienced. Being disappointed with yourself , and then having to look into the eyes of the people who are close to you, who love you dearly and see disappointment reflected in their eyes. … It sucks !
This was one state of being which I swore I would never return to. For many years it had been the driving force in my life to improve myself. My personal mantra is "In Search of Excellence", from the way I think and behave, to what I eat, exercise, the way I bring up my daughter, to living life in general. It hasn't been easy to unlearn old habits and then learn and apply the new, healthier ones... at the end of the day it was worth it, and still is. This is an ongoing journey which will never end. As humans we may choose to evolve and grow in any direction we wish. We can let our challenges turn us into bitter, resentful people or we can allow them to become a positive platform from which we may then in turn help others turn their lives around. I chose the latter ! About twelve years ago, I wasn't the healthiest or happiest of persons. I suffered from asthmatic bronchitis, acne, had cellulite on my thighs, suffered from sinusitis, cavities in my teeth and to top it off , I was quite an angry and agressive person. I could say I was blaming everything and everyone around me apart from myself. Hmmmm..... What turned things around ? I went to an Anthony Robbins seminar which was a total eye opener... I came back and began taking responsibility for my life and slowly started changing my life around. I immersed myself in a Nutritionist course, altered my eating habits and started exercising.... that was the easy part. Changing my negative, self-pitying thoughts into more positive ones was another ball game all together. So.... What is Wellness ? "Wellness is more than the abscence of illness. Wellness is having the energy to do the things you dream of. Wellness is the belief that your body wants to heal itself and that you can improve your health over time, rather than stand by and watch it deteriorate." Wellness is about you, trusting yourself and creating your unique and vibrant life in your own way; and that may take some serious question asking ! Change is an important part of life. The "I-Ching" or the Chinese book of change, is based on the 'premise' that nothing ever remains the same. "The only thing in life that is absolute is change" - Sophocles. Most of what we are experiencing is a result of the choices we make. If you want to experience something different, then you've got to alter your behaviours, decisions and actions to be able to experience a different form of reality. Food for thought ! Until next time, Celebrate Life with lots of Smiles, Barbara.
