We've got the humble carob growing on our doorstep yet we only seem to remember it on Green Mondays !
For readers who live abroad... it is traditional on Green Mondays to go out into the fields and eat mostly bread, fresh, raw vegetables, savoury tahini,(sesame paste) and a sweet dip made with tahini and carob syrup. Reasons:
Carob also has excellent nutritional value. It contains magnesium, calcium, iron, phosphorous, potassium, manganese, barium, copper, nickel and the vitamins A, B, B2, B3, and D. Spicy Carob Smoothie 1 banana 1 tbsp carob powder 1 date 1 cups rice milk or almond milk or water (optional 1/4 tsp powdered cinnamon, nutmeg, pinch of cloves) Blend and enjoy ! Carob powder may be found at most health food shops. If you use carob syrup, not more than 1 tbsp a day as it is high in sugar. If you are aware of any health problem which may compromise your general health, it is important to seek treatment.
