The Best Herbs For Treating Gum DiseaseĀ

Gum disease is a disturbingly common condition among the general adult population. It causes symptoms such as inflamed, swollen and tender gums as well as bleeding and receding gums when it is allowed to progress. When left untreated the condition can become distressing and painful for the patient.

It is therefore essential to look after your oral health and prevent the condition from ever arising. Through a strict oral health routine of brushing after each meal, flossing and rinsing, you can successfully remove the bacteria that lead to gum disease.

Natural and herbal products are an excellent choice for daily use as they are free from the potentially harmful chemicals contained in commercial products and have been shown to be very effective.

Many of the herbs and ingredients contained in natural oral health products, have been trusted for centuries. Conveniently, they are now packaged as toothpaste and mouthwash for easy use.

Some herbal ingredients that treat and prevent gum disease include:

1.   Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is very effective at soothing inflamed, red and painful gums. Its antiseptic qualities are also useful for helping to reduce infection of the gums.

2.    Clove oil

Clove oil has been used for toothaches and gum disease for centuries because it can be easily applied directly on painful gums to reduce inflammation.

3.    Cranberry

Cranberry is well known as a powerful antibacterial and can create a protective shield to prevent bacteria from burying down under the gum line.

4.    Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is a very effective dental product as it has powerful antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal properties.

5.    Golden Seal

Golden seal is favored for its ability to heal and sooth mouth ulcers and sore spots. Its antibacterial qualities also reduce periodontal gum diseases by fighting bacteria that cause it.

6.    Echinacea

Echinacea is well known for boosting the immune system as well as protecting against the invasion of bad bacteria in the body. It is often used in natural mouthwashes for its antibacterial properties.

7.    Hawthorn Berry

Hawthorn berry is useful when dealing with advanced gum disease as it is an astringent and can strengthen the gums making it easier for them to support teeth.

8.    Chamomile

Chamomile has strong soothing qualities which come in handy when treating gum disease. Its anti-inflammatory powers make it a good choice for use in treating gum disease.
